Rescue Operation by Sea Lynx

The Sea Lynx, under the management of Pantheon Tankers Management Ltd. commanded by Captain Antonios Psarianos, successfully conducted a rescue operation of 21 fishermen off Galapagos Islands.

The operation was conducted in an efficient manner and the rescued fishermen were safely delivered to an Equatorial Navy boat.

The vessel in distress was a fishing boat with the following details:

  • -  Name: Ciudad de Portoviejo
  • -  IMO Nr: 7368425
  • -  Flag: Ecuador
  • -  Persons on board : 21 of Ecuadorian nationality 
  • -  Injuries/Casualties: 2 injured, burn injuries non-critical. No casualties
  • -  Cause of distress: Fire in engine room. Fire extinguished. Ingress of water (under control)

The Master notified the company’s Operations and HSQE Departments about the change in course and response to the distress signal. The company concurred to Master’s immediate action and endeavored to provide any assistance necessary.
The Operations department established contact with Charterers casualty notification center and Charterers’ commercial department. Charterers sincerely thanked the owners for providing prompt notification and acknowledged their sincere concern for the lives of the crew.
HSQE Department respectively established contact with the vessel’s Flag Administration.
The Master remained in constant contact with the USCG and in turn with the Ecuadorian Coast Guard, to which the rescue operation was assigned as the local SAR coordination center.
As soon as the rescue operation became feasible by daylight, all 21 crew members of the fishing boat were brought on board the Sea Lynx.

On 07-May-2016 00:30 LT, all 21 survivors of the fishing boat were successfully and safely delivered to their country’s coast guard.
